Mambo becomes Joomla!

For those that don't know it yet, there has been a split between Miro, the original creators of the Mambo content management system and the Mambo developers. It seems that disagreements regarding how Mambo was controlled led to the split, and the developers have created a new project called Joomla!. This will leave many wondering which project to follow: Mambo or Joomla!

South African internet usage - July 2005

It looks like internet usage in South Africa is on the rise again in 2005, with the latest figures estimated to be at 4,780,000 users (Internet World Stats). That's about 10% of South Africa's population.

I heard Chris Pirillo interviewing Michael Robertson of the Gizmo Project, on the Chris Pirillo podcast. It's a great interview, and provides a more in depth understanding of how Gizmo is different to Skype.

Mashups

From listening to the Daily Source Code, Adam Curry's podcast I've once again been entertained by mashups. A mashup is a mix of different songs combined into one, to hopefully create a piece of work that is greater (or at least equal to) the sum of it's parts.

Skype and Gizmo

I've been using Skype for quite a while, for both Skype to Skype calls as well as Skype to land line calls (mostly to the UK). I've recently come across an alternative to Skype called Gizmo which is pretty similar to Skype although it does offer some additional features. One feature that Skype currently does not offer is the recording of your Skype calls.
